In 2007 I was approached by Jeffrey Howard, a Winston Salem businessman and founder of Golf Fore! Fun Inc. His vision was to offer access to the game of golf and The First Tee "Life Skills Experience" to
the children of the Triad. In late 2007 I was offered the position of Executive Director for the newly named The First Tee of the Triad. We began offering programs to Winston Salem area youth in March 2008. By the end of 2008 we had reached over one thousand children with our after school and outreach programs. Our staff has grown to include a full time Program Director, part time Outreach Coordinator and myself. By the end of 2009 we will have reached over 6,500 children in the Winston Salem and Greensboro areas. Our projected growth for 2010 includes 450 after school participants and over 7,000 outreach and National School Program Participants. As our program continues to grow, also do our needs. We are actively recruiting volunteer assistant coaches to work directly with the youth, administrative volunteers and individual and corporate sponsors.
