In 2007, I received a call I never would have expected. Jeff Howard, a local business man, invited me to interview for a position with The First Tee of the Triad.

There were many worthy candidates. I was both honored and surprised when the board selected me to be the founding executive director. It was a whole new world for me. At that point in my life, I had never been on a committee, never served on a board, and only owned one pair of dress shoes.

I started with nothing but a clip board, one volunteer, and a handful of kids. By the end of our first year of programing, in 2008, we had over 100 children. Eight dedicated volunteers and I ran the classes at the Winston Lake and Tanglewood locations.

Five years later, with the help of many, we have worked with thousands of children and now offer classes at six locations.

I am proud to be associated with an organization that teaches life skills and core values to children, through the game of golf.
